Purchase a Farsi textbook. A textbook will give you a basic overview of grammatical structure and vocabulary, and will also offer helpful hints for pronunciation and reading. Complete exercises as you come across them in your textbook and review any problem areas until you understand the lesson with ease.

Create Farsi flash cards. Write down common Farsi words and phrases on a set of index cards. Write the English translation on the back of the cards. Carry these flash cards with you and review them regularly to increase your retention of the new vocabulary.

Immerse yourself in Farsi. Read Farsi websites and phrase books regularly to learn new words and to remind yourself of words you have already learned. Listen to Farsi music, watch movies in Farsi and download Farsi podcasts to add variety to your studying. One of the biggest challenges to learning any language is overcoming boredom and complacency. Adding variety to the ways you study will add intrigue as you learn the Farsi language.

Practice your Farsi-speaking skills with fellow students or voice chat with Farsi speakers online. Speaking helps you develop stronger vocabulary skills and also assists your listening skills as you converse with fellow Farsi speakers. If you hear a new word that you do not understand, ask your speaking partner what it means. Immediately create a flash card with your new word so you can study it later.
