How Can I Make Spaghetti Look Like Brains?

Cooked spaghetti resembles brain matter, offering an ingredient for Halloween parties and haunted houses. Staging the spaghetti with such props as fake bodies and doctor's tools adds to the exhibit. You can combine spaghetti with sauce to create the appearance of bloody brains and pour the mixture into a masked pumpkin for an operating table display.

Spaghetti provides the texture and look of the interior of the skull. Create fake brains to spook trick-or-treaters or party-goers. Bring 6 oz. of water to a boil on high heat. Add 1 lb. of spaghetti and boil the spaghetti for about 10 minutes until a soft consistency forms. This makes the spaghetti more gooey and brain-like. Strain the spaghetti in a colander and pour it into a mixing bowl. Pour tomato sauce with chunks of tomato in it over the spaghetti to portray the effect of brains and tissue. Stir the spaghetti and sauce mixture.

Gut the interior of small, circular squash that resembles the shape of a human head, like a pumpkin. Cut the squash in half to create two bowls. Paint the squash a skin-tone color. Allow the paint to dry for one hour. Place a mask with an attached wig around the squash to create the look of a person’s head. Part the wig so that the hair falls to the side of the squash opening. Glue fake ears onto each side of the squash.

Add a creepy effect to the spaghetti brains and brain cavity by setting up an operating table. Cover a picnic table with a white table cloth that drapes over the sides. Clip a light onto the end of the table or hang one above the table to resemble an operating room scene. Stuff the arms and neck of a shirt and pants with newspaper so they appear to be filled out by a body. Place the stuffed shirt and pants face-down on the operating table. Cover the legs with a white sheet and add shoes sticking out from the bottom of the sheet. Place the decorated squash face-down on the operating table. Pour the spaghetti brains into the opening so that some spaghetti is falling out and draping over the sides.

Drip red paint onto the shirt and sheet to look like blood spills. Paint the tips of fake doctor’s tools red and arrange them as props on the sheet near where the brain cavity is arranged. Ask a friend to dress in a doctor costume and stand near the operating table, holding a scalpel and knife. Create a name tag that says Dr. Jeckyll and attach it to the doctor scrubs.
