How to Style Wavy Hair
-
1
Shampoo and condition hair.
-
2
Apply a volumizing mousse to damp hair, working through from roots to tips. Distribute by running a wide-tooth comb through hair.
-
-
3
Dry hair using a hairdryer with an air concentrator attachment until it is about 75 percent dry. Air concentrator attachments are usually included in the original hairdryer packaging. If you do not have an attachment, dry hair without it, pointing the hairdryer downward along the hair shaft. Use your fingers to separate strands as you dry.
-
4
Use a round brush to finish fully drying hair, pulling sections of hair upward and out. This will impart natural volume.
-
5
Grab a 2-inch section of hair, and lightly mist with hairspray. Clamp the hair in a heated curling iron with a curling iron, letting ends hang out of the iron. (For shorter hair, use a curling iron with a 0.5-inch barrel; longer hair can go up to a 1.5-inch barrel. The bigger the barrel, the looser the waves will be.) Hair should be curled away from the face, so rotate the iron counterclockwise as you roll hair up.
-
6
Roll the hair around the iron while holding the barrel vertically; when you reach your roots, the iron should be parallel to your scalp. It is important to hold the curling iron vertically throughout the process, as holding it horizontally will result in bouncier ringlets instead of waves. Hold for a few seconds and release.
-
7
Repeat the curling process section by section until all hair is wavy.
-
8
Spray on a hairspray with medium hold to set waves. Gently rake fingers through hair to loosen waves, if desired.
