How to Make a Bow String Knot

A bow string knot is often used to make lariats for lassoing cattle and eyes for bowstrings. This knot is also known as the honda knot; sailors often refer to it as a running knot. It is an ancient knot known for its small size and strength. It is an easy knot to tie and does not leave loose ends. This knot should not be untied once it has been tied and firmly secured.

Instructions

1. Tie a simple overhand knot, but do not tighten it.

2. Pull the end of the string through the knot. Tie an overhand knot in the end of the string and pull it tight.

3. Pull the initial overhand knot tight. This will create a loop between the two overhand knots.

4. Pull the other end of the string through the loop to make a lariat.
