Instructions

    • 1

Select three or four different types of flowers. The number of combinations is limitless. Try rose, chrysanthemum and iris for winter weddings, or astrid, marigold and orchid for summer weddings. Designate one to be the main flower around which you build the arrangement, and place some around the edges of the holder. Colors like red, champagne, peach and cream are suitable for weddings.

    • 2

Select several nice vases or decorative holders in which to place the flowers. Make sure the vases match each other.

    • 3

Prepare the flowers for the arrangement by cutting the stems to 6 inches or less. Do this the night before the wedding so the flowers are fresh. Place them in lukewarm water.

    • 4

Put the floral foam in the container and place one "focal" flower of the same type in the very center of the arrangement. Then work out from the center, adding other varieties in groups of four. When you look at your arrangement from the side, it will appear as if there are three layers of flowers. Seat the flowers firmly in the floral foam.

    • 5

Build around those four flowers with four other flowers. Layer them above the first four flowers, but make sure they are cut a little shorter so as not to block out the first layer. In other words, you will have two levels of flowers of slightly different heights, but both should be visible.

    • 6

Fill in the outside edge with different types of flowers. For example, if you used roses and carnations in the first steps, use irises next to give the arrangement variety. Arrange the flowers symmetrically, so the arrangement has a balanced appearance. Fill in any gaps and spaces. Put simple greenery behind the flowers and to fill in gaps.

    • 7

Duplicate this arrangement in multiple flower holders around the ceremony or reception.
