How to Use Hungarian Paprika
Made from the conical variety of Capsicum annuum in the Szeged and Kalocsa regions of Hungary, Hungarian paprika is the ground powdered form of this pepper and a staple spice in kitchens throughout the world. Though larger and milder than chili peppers, the peppers used for paprika can still be quite fiery; and in the case of Hungarian paprika, it is stronger than paprika from Spain. There are six different types of Hungarian paprika: special quality; delicate; exquisite and pungent-exquisite delicate; noble-sweet; half-sweet; and hot. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Enhance flavors with Hungarian paprika. With its slightly warm and sweet bouquet and sweet and mild-to-pungent flavors, Hungarian paprika can add smokiness and heat to your dishes.
-
2
Use Hungarian paprika to spice cheese, cheese products, marinades and smoked foods. Dust it onto meats or add it to zest up sausages.
-
-
3
Use Hungarian paprika in ethnic dishes such as Spanish, Portuguese or Turkish preparations, where paprika is traditionally added to soups, casseroles and vegetables.
-
4
Add Hungarian paprika to a variety of Hungarian recipes. Choose from several forms of paprika when making Hungarian cuisine: powdered, dry and whole, fresh and pickled. To make the base of many Hungarian dishes, braise an onion in oil and add powdered paprika. The oil will help release the flavor of the paprika, but do not burn it, or it will ruin the dish. Turn the heat to the lowest setting and remove the pan from the heat when you add the paprika to prevent scorching. Stir continuously. Once you have the base, add vegetables, water and other ingredients in the recipe and raise the temperature.

5
Make traditional Hungarian goulash, using 1 tbsp. of paprika per four servings of this hearty beef dish, which is often also enriched with onions, tomato, green peppers, potatoes and noodles.

Use Hungarian paprika for its color. Add Hungarian paprika to Indian tandoori dishes to create the characteristic striking red color. Use it together with henna to produce a red burgundy color. In commercial food processing, use Hungarian paprika to impart a red, orange or reddish-brown color to meats, sauces, chili powders and soups.
-
7
Garnish with Hungarian paprika. Sprinkle paprika on hors d'oeuvres like deviled eggs and salads. The color and bite that paprika lends will add interest and verve to your appetizers.
-
8
Emulsify using Hungarian paprika. Hungarian paprika can bind and improve the texture of ingredients. Add Hungarian paprika in vinaigrettes to make a smoother salad dressing.
