How to Throw a Jack and Jill Baby Shower

How to Throw a Jack and Jill Baby Shower thumbnail
Try to combine cute and masculine for a successful co-ed baby shower.

Fathers were once expected to have very little involvement with their young children, and even less involvement in the months leading up to the birth. Baby showers, once designated a female-only event, have begun to recognize the hands-on role that many fathers now play in their children's lives. Jack and Jill co-ed baby showers allow a new father or father-to-be to share in the celebration of the birth of his child with friends and family.

Instructions

  1. Party Preparations

    • 1

Prepare a unisex or male-friendly baby shower invitation. You can purchase unisex invitations or make your own invitations at home using neutral colors, but avoid frilly designs or decorations. Design the invitation on the computer using clip art images that represent both "Jack" and "Jill," such as, sports team emblems or tools surrounded by baby carriages and flowers. Alternatively, you could print out photo cards with a picture of both the mother and father-to-be on the front.

    • 2

Keep the baby shower decorations simple. Blow up some balloons and tie them in groups to hang, put up a simple "Baby Shower" sign. Find some sport-themed baby clothes or make them at home from onesies and sport-themed iron-on decals. Hang a clothesline and pin the sporty baby clothes onto the line. If neither the mother nor father-to-be are sports fans, pin up clothes that coordinate with the color theme of the party.

    • 3

Serve man-friendly foods. Along with the salad and sandwiches, serve barbecue foods, such as hamburgers, sausages and even steaks, if the budget allows.

    • 4

Leave snack foods, such as chips and pretzels, readily available in large serving bowls.

    • 5

Serve sodas, beer, fruit juices and wine coolers for beverages.

    Baby Shower Games

    • 6

Fill a baby bottle with a particular number of candies and place the bottle next to the guest book. As guests come, have them sign the guest book and write down their guess on the amount of candies in the bottle on a small square of paper.

    • 7

Play a blindfold diapering game for some laughs. Place a baby doll wearing a cloth diaper on a table. Blindfold each participant and have them change the baby doll into a new diaper while timing them with a stop watch. Judge the winner based on the least amount of time required to complete the blindfolded task and the neatest diapering job.

    • 8

Play a one-handed team diapering game. Organize guests into pairs and have each team diaper a baby doll with a cloth diaper and pins, while each team member can use only one hand. The fastest pair wins.

    • 9

Divide guests into groups of three or four and select one member of each group to be the pregnant model. The team must "dress" the model in a creative maternity outfit, using only rolls of tissue. Let the mother-to-be select the most creative winner.

    • 10

Play an outdoor baby stroller racing game. Set up an obstacle course in the backyard before the guests arrive. To play, each guest must race through the obstacle course pushing a stroller with a baby doll. The fastest racer, who does not let their "baby" fall out of the stroller, wins.
