How to Install an SKS Stock

How to Install an SKS Stock thumbnail
The SKS rifle

SKS rifles were the main battle rifles of the Soviet army and their eastern bloc allies in the 1950s, until they were replaced by AK-47 assault rifles. Surplus SKS rifles are generally reliable and inexpensive. Installation of a new stock on a SKS rifle does not require any special tools. The majority of SKS replacement stocks are now produced in the United States and are in compliance with BAFT regulations. Before handling your SKS rifle, verify that the weapon is unloaded.

Instructions

    • 1

Engage the safety and press the button just behind the trigger, releasing the trigger group.

    • 2

Pull back simultaneously on the bolt and magazine; this action will cause the magazine assembly to pivot forward out of the stock.

    • 3

Separate the receiver and barrel assembly from the original stock and install it into your replacement stock.

    • 4

Insert the trigger group into the new stock; seat it into position by lightly tapping the bottom of the trigger guard.

    • 5

Disengage the safety; the safety will only disengage if the trigger group is properly installed.
