How to Make a Centerpiece With Geraniums & Clay Pots
Centerpieces are essential accessories for events such as engagements, weddings or anniversary parties. A centerpiece normally sits at the center of a table. Flowers are one of the most common items in centerpieces as they are very attractive and easy to work with. A combination of geraniums and clay pots are ideal for any centerpiece. You can grow geraniums in any garden or in a clay pot, which you can later use as a centerpiece. Geraniums are good house plants and also bloom well in pots. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Wire brush
- Soapy water
- Patio paint
- Paintbrush
- Standard planter soil
- Sand
- Drip tray

Use a wire brush to remove dirt or minerals from the clay pot. Wash the pot with soapy water. Rinse it in clean water and let it dry.

Decorate the pot with a pattern or a color of your choice.

Mix standard plant soil with sand. Mix one unit of sand with nine units of flower plant soil for proper drainage.

Fill the pot with the plant soil mixture. Leave two inches space from the rim.

Form a hole in the middle of the soil with your hand. Make a large enough hole to be able to fit the geranium plant into it.

Place the geranium into the hole and arrange the soil around it to support the plant. Remove or add extra soil if necessary.

Place drip tray under the clay pot to protect the surface of the table on which you want to place the clay pot.

Water the soil after you have finished planting. Once the pot is heavier than it was before you started watering, the soil has absorbed enough water.

Tips & Warnings
In clay pots the soil dries out quickly. Check the moisture of the soil every day with your finger. Before winter, relocate the pot into a frost-free place.
