How to Cut Holes in Granite Tile
Granite is a very dense rock commonly used as countertops and tile. Cutting holes into a granite tile or countertop is relatively difficult. The thickness of the rock is counterproductive to normal methods. The same tools used to cut holes in wood are used to cut holes in granite. However, specialized drill bits and hole-cutting bits are required to penetrate the denseness of the material. Several hardware and specialty shops offer the diamond-tipped drill bits necessary for cutting holes in granite. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place tape over the granite tile covering the area needing the hole. The tape will protect the surrounding surface from damage.

2
Drill the hole with a drill and diamond-tipped or carbide hole-cutting drill bit. Hold the drill carefully and firmly. A drill with a high level of RPMs is ideal for the process. Do not put excessive downward pressure on the drill to avoid cracking the tile.

If the tile has not been installed, you can mark the hole with a marker or wax pencil and take the tile to a hardware store to be cut or drilled. Most hardware stores offer assistance of this nature for a small fee but they will guarantee their work.
