Instructions

    • 1

Lock a 1 inch-by-1 inch wood section in your lathe and turn on the machine. The wood will start spinning at a high speed.

    • 2

Carve the wood with small chisels to achieve your ideal design. Carve multiple grooves and designs over the surface.

    • 3

Sand the wood with 220 grit sandpaper and turn the machine off. Remove wood from the machine and set it on a flat surface.

    • 4

Measure the circumference of the finger you want to place the ring on. Wrap the flexible tape measure around the finger and record the measurement.

    • 5

Divide the circumference by pi to determine the radius. Multiply the radius by two to figure out the total distance across the finger.

    • 6

Drill through the center of the wood using a drill bit that matches the diameter measured.

    • 7

Cut the 1 inch long section into the desired width you want for the ring. If you want a bulky ring, aim for 1/2-inch thick. For a thinner design, cut the wood into four 1/4-inch sections.

    • 8

Sand the wood with the 220-grit sandpaper. Focus on the cut edges as well as the ring around the drilled interior.
