How to Open Link in a New Tab & Not a New Window With Explorer

A computer desktop can become quite cluttered when multiple windows are open at the same time. Users of Internet Explorer can elect to open multiple tabs instead; a tab is a new Web page that is opened in the same browser window. When more than one tab is open, a user can click from one tab to another -- tabs appear in a horizontal bar at the top of the screen.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate your mouse on top of the link that you want to open.

    • 2

      Right-click on the link.

    • 3

Click "Open Link in New Tab" from the drop-down list; the option is the second from the top, just under "Open Link in New Window."

    • 4

Click on the new tab, the last tab on the right in the list of open tabs, to view the link's contents.
