Instructions

    • 1

Find a circular object that matches the size circles you want to create. Examples of circular items include bowls, dinner plates, the bottoms of cups and the bases of candles.

    • 2

Trace the item on contact paper. Lay the item on top of a sheet of contact paper. Use a pencil to trace it. Make sure to press hard enough with the pencil so that you can see the shape on the contact paper.

    • 3

Cut out the circle. Use a craft knife to cut the circular shape out of the contact paper. Go slowly and follow the lines precisely to create a smooth and perfect shape.

    • 4

Remove the circle from the contact paper. Carefully take the circular shape off of the piece of paper and put it aside for another project or throw it out. The contact paper with the circle cut in the center of it will serve as the stencil for your painting.

    • 5

Hang the stencil on the wall with painters' tape. Place a piece of tape on each corner of the paper and a piece of tape in the center of each side to ensure that the stencil doesn't move during painting.

    • 6

Paint the circle. Dip a paintbrush in paint. Run the brush along the edge of the paint can to remove any excess paint. Apply the paint to the circle, using even strokes. You may wish to apply two or more coats of paint to achieve the desired look.

    • 7

Remove the stencil. While the paint is still wet, remove the pieces of tape off the stencil, and slowly pull it off the wall. Hang the stencil in the next spot you wish to create a circle and repeat the process.
