How to Clean Ironing Board Covers

The fabric that stretches over ironing boards need to be cleaned periodically to keep it from staining your clothes. Things You'll Need

  • 1 tsp. mild dish soap
  • Cloths
  • Drying rack or clothesline
  • 1 tsp. mild liquid detergent

Instructions

  1. Nonwashable Cover

      Remove the ironing board cover, and place on a table or counter.

      Fill a sink with warm water and 1 tsp. liquid dish soap. Wet a cloth with the mixture.

      Wipe both sides of the ironing board cover with the soapy cloth. Scrub off any stains on the cover with the cloth.

      Rinse the cloth in warm water. Wipe the cloth over the cover, removing the soapy residue. Dry the cover with a clean, dry cloth.

      Place the cover on a drying rack or clothesline to dry the rest of the way. Allow the cover to dry completely before placing it back on the ironing board.

    Washable Cover

      Remove the cover from the ironing board, and check the care label.

      Place the cover into the washer, and set the water temperature as directed on the care label. Add 1 tsp. mild liquid detergent to the water. Launder normally.

      Remove the cover from the washer, and place into the dryer. Dry the cover on low heat. When dry, replace the cover on the ironing board.
