Clowns are recognized for their characteristic white makeup. However, clown makeup can be costly due to the amount needed to cover a person's face, and sometimes the makeup may be difficult to find during off-Halloween seasons. Fortunately, clown makeup can be created using regular kitchen items. Some parents prefer this method to avoid chemical-infused makeup.

Mix 10 teaspoon cornstarch and 2 teaspoons flour on a small plate or in a container. Use a fork to mash these ingredients together, as you will only be dealing with a small amount of paint. However, make sure the mixing is thorough.

Add 5 teaspoons vegetable shortening to your mixture. This will yield a thicker texture, so use a wooden spoon to help you mix the ingredients better.

Add 1/4 teaspoon vegetable glycerin to your composite. This will create a white base for your clown makeup. Adding an additional two drops of glycerin can create a creamier texture, if desired.

Use a sponge or paint brush to apply the clown makeup. Paint brushes help with smaller or detailed face coloring. Sponges are useful for applying makeup on larger areas of the face.

Tip

Mix in a few drops of food coloring to create a makeup mixture in the color of your choice. You may choose to divide your current mixture into a few sections to create multiple colorings, or you can create several individual batches.

Warning

Extra caution should be taken when applying makeup around your eyes. Keep the mixture from getting into your eyes.

Colored makeup may stain objects such as clothing or furniture.

Test for any allergic reactions by applying the makeup on a small area first.
