How to Create a Marilyn Monroe Costume

Although Marilyn Monroe was at the height of her popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, today she still isviewed by many as a fashion icon. Her pouting red lips and blond hair are trademarks of her glamorous style that were seen in movies and magazines during her time. Dressing up as Marilyn Monroe is often a popular choice when it comes to costume parties and other events that call for dressing up as a character or celebrity. If you find yourself wanting to duplicate a Marilyn Monroe look, it's not hard to do. There are specific fashion items that will help you easily create your own Marilyn Monroe costume.

Things You'll Need

• Blond wig
• Hair pins
• White halter dress
• Sandal pumps
• Red lipstick
• Fake eyelashes
• Eyebrow pencil

Instructions

1. Put on a shoulder-length blond wig. The wig should have loose curls or have the ability to be curled loosely. Secure the wig with bobby pins if you need to.

2. Put on a white A-line-cut halter dress that stops just above your knees. An A-line-cut dress hangs loosely starting just under your chest.

3. Slide on a pair of white or red sandal pump shoes. The heel should be at least 2 inches tall.

4. Apply bright red lipstick to your lips. Use makeup concealer as a base coat to give your lips a matte finish and make the color last longer.

5. Create a black beauty mark about 1/4 inch up and over from the right corner of your mouth. Use a sharpened black eyebrow pencil to get the best results.

6. Apply a strip of black long eyelashes to the rim of your eyelids. Use eyelash applicator glue to secure them in place.

7. Shade over your eyebrows with a dark brown or black eyebrow pencil. Create with the pencil an arch in your eyebrows that begins directly over your eye pupil.

8. Put on dangling pearl or diamond earrings and a bracelet of the same stone.
