Brush the muscled parts of your horse, such as the neck, body and down the legs to the knees and hocks, using a curry comb. A curry comb is a rubber or plastic grooming tool used to remove dirt and mud that is packed on your horse.

Perform round circular motions to massage your horse with the curry comb as you are grooming your horse. This helps to get rid of dead hair and stimulate hair growth while improving circulation to the skin and ease tense muscles. Be sure to apply a little pressure and curry your horse as the first step to each grooming.

Brush your horse with a hard bristle brush with short strokes in the direction of the hair growth. The brush should not be too firm that it does not have any give to it. The hard brush will lay the horse's coat smooth and flat. This brush can be used all over your horse's body except for the face because of the hard bristles.

Groom with a soft bristle brush, which is used to flick any remaining dust off your horse. Use this brush, with its long, soft bristles, all over your horse, including the face.

Hose down your horse when extremely dirty or after a sweaty workout. Use tepid water and a sponge, starting at the legs and moving slowly upward over the entire horse. Massage with a whisp or bunch of straw and towel dry.
