How to Change Out SmartWater Reverse Osmosis Filters

GE SmartWater reverse osmosis water filter systems have filter cartridges that you must replace on a regular basis. Installing a new filter improves the system's ability to clean the water and increases water flow from the spout. GE recommends only using SmartWater reverse osmosis filters with these systems in order to ensure that they operate properly. Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the water supply to the reverse osmosis system.

      Turn the reverse osmosis faucet on to drain the tank. Wait for the tank to drain completely. Turn off the faucet.

      Twist each sump counterclockwise to unhook them from the reverse osmosis system.

      Pull the old filters out of the sumps and discard.

      Wash the inside of the sumps with dish soap and warm water. Rinse well with clean water.

      Insert the new SmartWater filter cartridges into the sumps.

      Position each sump in its previous location on the reverse osmosis unit. Twist clockwise to lock them into place.

      Turn the water supply to the reverse osmosis unit back on and allow to fill. It will take up to four hours for the tank to refill. Inspect the unit for any leaks before using.
