How to Create a Custom Playlist From Various Folders in Specific Order thumbnail
Like standalone mp3 players, mp3 player software on PCs supports custom playlists.

Many people use their personal computers as a place to store their ever-growing collection of music. In addition to putting their music on mp3 players, most users play their music directly from their computer, using programs like iTunes, Winamp and Windows Media Player. While these programs, as well as the many other programs out there, are vastly different, you can create a basic playlist of songs stored in many different folders relatively easily, using approximately the same steps for each program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your music playback software, either by double-clicking the desktop icon for the program, or by double-clicking the song file that you want to use as the first song on your playlist.

    • 2

Bring up the first folder that has some of the music you want in your playlist. Click on the file, or hold the CTRL key and click multiple files, and drag them into the playlist window in your music player. Repeat this step as needed until all the music you want in your playlist is there.

    • 3

Click on the file you want to move up or down the playlist, and drag it using your mouse. Release the mouse button when you have the file where you want it on your list. Once done, click "Play."

    • 4

Select the "File" option from the top-left end of your top menu bar, and then click "Save Playlist" or "Save Playlist As," if you want to save your playlist. Depending on the program used, the wording may differ.

Tips & Warnings

  • An alternate method to create a playlist is to go from folder to folder, dragging each individual file to the playlist one at a time. This is time-consuming, but can be useful for especially long playlists.

  • Make sure, whatever your music player is, that your "Random" option is turned off.
