How to Connect to Wi-Fi with your Sylvania Netbook
The Sylvania Netbook is an inexpensive 7-inch device that is convenient for accessing the Internet on public or private Wi-Fi networks. It is not intended to replace a regular computer for daily tasks; its purpose is to provide a lightweight unit to access social media and perform small tasks. The netbook defaults to mobile websites, but it does a good job at what it is intended to do. Connecting to Wi-Fi networks with your Sylvania Netbook requires configuring the device properly.

Boot up the Sylvania Netbook by pushing the manual switch below the screen. Push the F9 key to turn on the Wi-Fi on the device.

Select the little wireless icon in the toolbar at the bottom; it looks like a small computer. Choose the "Wireless Information" tab. This will show the online status of the device, as in whether it has connected to the Internet. If you have checked the box beside this option, this tab also notifies you when new networks are available. If the status shows that you have connected, skip to Step 5.

You may need to add your wireless router manually in the setup. Do this by choosing, "Add New." Obtain the necessary setup information from your wireless Internet provider. If you have an encrypted network, you will need to fill in that information about your router.

To configure the wireless setup further, click on the name of the wireless network. Click on "Advanced Settings" and adjust your connection choices; this tab determines the order of connection if there is more than one network available. Another important setting on this tab is the "Allow Windows to configure my wireless settings" option. Check that box.

Click the "Internet Explorer" icon on the desktop. If you are online, you will pull up the Google homepage.

Tips & Warnings
If you are having difficulty with Wi-Fi access, there is a Sylvania Netbook Wi-Fi update available to download at the Digital Gadgets site that may solve your issues (see Resources).
If you choose to download the Wi-Fi update, carefully follow the instructions to avoid damage to your device.

I thought that I had better check this item out as JC Penney Outlet has it in their sale flyer. I was thinking about getting it. It takes the young ones to know what is not good. Don't want to waste my money! Retired/fixed income.

Wow....I bugged my children to death for a Sylvania Netbook n its worthless....it still wont let me connect to the internet.....not a good thing if you go to school! Even my 9 yr old Grandson knows that's a worthless piece of equipment. Especially in these times....you want your moneys worth.....n this device didn't even pay for my gas....
