How to Make Goldenseal Root Mouthwash
Goldenseal is an herb native to North America and has been used as a medicinal agent for generations. Native Americans introduced it to Europeans and since then it has been lauded as a cure-all. Goldenseal is used for a wide range of ailments, from mild mucus membrane irritations to ulcers. Frequently goldenseal is used as a mouthwash or gargle to treat colds, canker sores and gum disease.

Make a basic goldenseal root mouthwash by combining a quarter tsp. salt and the contents of one goldenseal root capsule to one cup warm water. It may not dissolve completely. Swish in mouth and spit out.

Make a mouthwash from a tincture of goldenseal root by adding two to three ml of tincture to one cup of warm water.

Prepare a tea made of goldenseal root by adding powered goldenseal root to hot water and allowing it to steep for 5 minutes. Add only as much as will dissolve in the hot water. Tea can be used as a mouth rinse and safely swallowed.

Tips & Warnings
Goldenseal, like any other medicine, may cause side effects or interact with other medications. Be very careful when combining goldenseal with prescription medication and consult your doctor if you have specific questions.
