How to Get Moisture out of Harmonicas

If you drop your harmonica in the sink, in a liquid or if you have been cleaning it, you will need to get all the moisture out of it. Moisture can cause the screws and other metal pieces in the harmonica to rust, which will ultimately lead to its destruction. To dry the harmonica out you need to be thorough, methodical, patient and precise.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the correct screwdriver for the job. Some harmonicas require flathead screwdrivers while others use Phillips screwdrivers.

    • 2

Unscrew all of the screws. Put them in a safe place, such as a cup or a plastic bag. The screws are tiny and can easily be lost.

    • 3

      Pull the unscrewed components apart.

    • 4

Run a small piece of absorbent material over the entire harmonica. Because this is fine work, you will probably need to use an implement such as tweezers or scissors. Ensure that you hit every single spot, so start with one corner of a piece and methodically work your way through in a grid pattern.

    • 5

Allow the parts to air-dry. Leave the disassembled parts out for a couple hours to air-dry any areas you may have missed.

    • 6

      Re-assemble the harmonica.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to over-tighten the screws. This can lead to warping.
