How to Install the Football Card in Your DirecTV Receiver
When upgrading your DirecTV service package, some satellite receivers require a new access card. The access card stores all the codes required for unscrambling programming information. If you recently purchased the football package, unlocking all games for the college ESPN Gameplan or professional NFL Sunday Ticket (each package for college or professional is purchased separately), you may need to install a new access card into your DirecTV receiver.

Pick up the football access card. You can either wait for a service technician to stop by and drop off the access card, pick it up yourself at a local DirecTV service center or have the new card mailed directly to you. Newer satellite receivers through DirecTV upgrade automatically via direct link from DirecTV. However, older receives that still use an access card must be reprogrammed via a new access card.

Power down the DirecTV receiver and open up the access card slot (located on the front of the receiver).

Push in the current access card. This ejects the card from the receiver. Remove the card from the slot and place it in a safe location (scratches to the card may damage the equipment).

Insert the new football access card into the open card slot. Push the card in completely to ensure it locks into place.

Close the card slot and then power on the DirecTV receiver. The new football programming codes upload to the receiver, unblocking all the football stations for your connected TV.
