Instructions

    • 1

Measure your neck and add two inches.

    • 2

Cut the wire to the neck measurement that you made in Step 1.

    • 3

Make a small loop on each end of the wire.

    • 4

Form the wire into a circle using your neck measurement as a guide.

    • 5

Lay all four sheets of the black construction paper on a table and draw an arc on the short side measuring one-half of your neck measurement.

    • 6

Cut all four sheets on this arc line.

    • 7

Draw and cut out a bat wing shape on the opposite side of the arc on all four sheets of the black construction paper.

    • 8

Lay two of the sheets of black construction paper on each sheet of the cardboard and draw around the arc and bat wing shape.

    • 9

      Cut out the "wing."

    • 10

Reverse the other two sheets of black construction paper and cardboard and repeat Steps 7 through 9.

    • 11

Glue one black construction paper wing to the cardboard of each side of the bat wing, leaving an inch at the neck.

    • 12

Turn over the bat wing and glue the remaining sheets of black construction paper to the other side of the cardboard.

    • 13

Lay both bat wings flat on a table with the neck arcs facing each other.

    • 14

Lift the black construction paper at the neck, apply glue and lay the wire circle onto the cardboard. The loops must face the back.

    • 15

Firmly press the black construction paper over the wire so it is glued into a "pocket."

    • 16

Glue the bat head to the front center of the bow tie.

    • 17

Place the bow tie around your neck after the glue has completely dried, using the loops to connect it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a heavy string instead of the wire and tie the string in the back. The wire just makes the bow tie firmer.

  • Place a bead on the end of the wire to keep from scratching yourself on the ends of the wire.

  • When using the pliers to form the loops, be careful not to cut yourself on the wire.
