Make a Multi-Strand Beaded Scarf Necklace

A scarf necklace has multiple bead strands in varying lengths that typically range from 16 to 20 inches. Design and create your own beaded scarf necklace with three to five beaded strands in lengths that fit your neckline. To make a multi-strand beaded scarf necklace, look for special connectors with three to five openings on one side and one opening on the other. The multiple openings are attachments for the beaded strands, the single opening is to connect the scarf necklace to the clasp using a single strand of beads.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance from your collar bone to collar bone going around the back of your neck. Divide this length in half. This measurement determines the length of the beaded strand from the multi-strand connector to the clasp.

    • 2

Determine the lengths of each beaded strand for the scarf section of the necklace based on your neckline and on the number of connectors on the multi-strand necklace connector. The connectors will rest on or near the left and right side of your collar bone. The first beaded strand is the shortest, measure the distance between the connectors and add 1/2 inch to 1-inch to the distance, depending on how much you'd like the scarf necklace to drape. Add 1 to 2 inches successively to determine the lengths of the remaining strands. Keep the measurements uniform.

    • 3

Cut one length of beading wire 1-inch longer than the measurement obtained in Step 1. Fold 1/2 inch of one end of one wire over the single connector on the multi-strand connector. Slide a crimp bead over the wire to cover both strips of wire around the connector.

    • 4

Crimp the bead with crimping pliers. Slide your choice of beads over the open wire to the crimped bead, leaving 1/2 inch open at the end. Add a crimp bead. Fold the open wire over the clasp connector ring and then back through the crimp bead. Crimp the bead.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to make and attach a beaded strand between the second multi-strand connector and the remaining section of the clasp. Fit and press crimp bead covers over the four crimp beads used in the two strands.

    • 6

Cut a length of beading wire 1 inch longer than the three to five scarf strand measurements obtained in Step 2. The shortest wire fits between the connections at the top of each multi-strand connector, the remaining wires fit in successive lengths between the remaining three to five connectors.

    • 7

Fold, crimp and bead each wire around the appropriate connectors as previously described in Steps 3 and 4. Fit and press crimp bead covers over all of the crimp beads used in the scarf necklace design.
