How to Mount Running Boards on a Dodge Nitro
Dodge Nitro running boards are an easy exterior upgrade for anyone with basic auto-repair skills. The running boards give the Nitro a rugged look while supplying the utilitarian benefit of an intermediate step between the cab and ground. Dodge offers them as a factory option; however, you can easily add them as an aftermarket option as well. While the running boards can seem large and imposing when you're considering installing them, the job itself should take no more than an hour to complete.

1
Lift the side of the Nitro off the ground using the floor jack. Support the Nitro with two of the four jack stands, positioned under the frame, away from the factory pre-drilled running board mounting holes. Move the floor jack out from under the Nitro.
-
2
Place the remaining jack stands alongside the Nitro's frame. Set the running board for that side on the jack stands, with the mounting brackets aligned with the mounting holes in the Nitro's frame.

3
Slide the mounting bolts through the running board mounting brackets and through the Nitro's frame. Install the nuts on the ends of the bolts using the socket set. Move the jack stands that were supporting the running board away from the Nitro.

4
Lower that side of your Nitro off the jack stands using the floor jack. Move to the opposite side of the Dodge and repeat the first three steps to install the other running board. Lower the Nitro off the jack stands with the floor jack.
