How to Access the HE Distance Learning
Higher Education (HE) through distance learning is a convenient way to earn qualifications without the expense of living on campus or commuting to classes. All colleges and universities that offer distance learning have particular requirements of their prospective students which may take the form of high school qualifications, access courses or admissions tests. You may also need to apply for funding to meet the costs of your chosen course and ensure that you can access the requisite course materials and exams.

Accessing HE Distance Learning in the U.S.
-
1
Choose which course you want to study. You can learn about the types of courses available via the International Education website. When you have picked a subject and type of course, it will be easier to select a college that provides the right distance learning program. The Education Advisory Service offers information on some of the 2000 colleges offering distance learning in the U.S. Many colleges also have their own website where you can search for information about distance learning options.
-
2
Meet your course requirements. If your chosen course provider requires you to have certain qualifications that you don't possess before you commence your studies, then arrange to acquire them. For example, if you don't hold a high school diploma, you can arrange to take a GED test via the American Council on Education.

3
Submit your application to study. Once you have selected a course and course provider and meet the requirements, you are ready to enroll. Some colleges offer the services of an enrollment adviser who can help you complete the admission forms. If in doubt, contact your college of choice directly for assistance and information on their enrollment procedure.

Check the entry criteria for your chosen course. As well as appropriate A Level qualifications (or something equivalent for foreign students), some courses require an admissions test. If you don't have the requisite qualifications, you may need to take an Access to Higher Education Diploma, which is available in a variety of topics to provide a suitable foundation for your degree course.

6
Apply for your chosen course directly from the institution you have chosen, in accordance with its specific requirements.
