How to Donate Cars to Children's Charity in Placer County, California
If you have a car in Placer County, California that you no longer want or need to keep, you can donate it to a charitable organization in the area. National and local children's charities in Placer County accept vehicle donations. Some even accept non-running or junk cars for donation. When you make your car donation to the children's charity, you can claim it on your taxes for a deduction as a charitable donation.

Contact your selected children's charity to let them know what type of vehicle you wish to donate. Usually the charity has a phone number or online vehicle donation form that you can use. Some of the children's charities in Placer County that accept vehicle donations include CASA Placer County, Kids First Now, Children's Wish Foundation and the Placer County Child Abuse Prevention Council (see Resources).

Make an appointment for the car to be picked up for donation. The charity will send a tow truck out to pick up the car, even if it is in running condition. You do not have to be home as long as you make prior arrangements with the organization.

Remove your California license plate from the vehicle before the tow truck driver takes the car. Sign your California car title over to the charity and present it to the driver with the keys to the vehicle. In return, you get a donation receipt.

Complete your Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability on the California DMV website (see Resources). California law requires that you do this within five days of selling or donating your vehicle to protect your liability and report the change in ownership. There is no fee to do this.
