Folliculitis--often referred to as razor burn or shaving rash--is a common problem associated with shaving. If a razor is dull, the skin is dry or repeated strokes of the razor occur, it can irritate the skin and hair follicles, resulting in an itchy, burning rash. This problem typically goes away on its own after a few days, but it's possible to speed up the process and alleviate the pain. Inexpensive over-the-counter medications may show relief in as little as a day. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Saturate a clean washcloth with hot water. Hold the washcloth against the neck for five minutes to soothe the rash. Pat the skin dry with a clean, dry washcloth.

    • 2

Apply benzoyl peroxide to the rash using a washcloth to kill any bacteria on the skin.

    • 3

Rub hydrocortisone or corticosteroid cream to the affected area of skin. Use just enough to cover the rash with a thin layer of cream.

    • 4

Repeat these steps three times per day until the rash clears up. Refrain from shaving until the skin completely heals.
