How to Start a Married Couple Ministries
Getting married may not be very difficult to do, but building a healthy, lasting marriage can be extremely challenging. In an age in which approximately half of marriages end in divorce, it's no secret that many married couples need help with their relationships. Starting a married couples ministry in your church or community can be a way to extend needed resources to couples who want to improve their marriages and the lives of their families.

1
Recruit a core group who will help you lead the ministry. If you are not trained in marriage counseling, someone in your group should be. You also might want a person to handle the scheduling and event planning, as well as someone to lead Bible studies. Having a person in charge of daycare will be useful as well.
-
2
Meet with your core group to plan for the ministry. Decide where and when you will meet. Your schedule should include regular weekly, bi-weekly or monthly meetings, as well as periodic special events and get-togethers. Pray for guidance. Decide on the goals and principles behind your ministry.
-
-
3
Produce a pamphlet or flier that states the goals and principles that are guiding your ministry.
-
4
Plan a family-oriented event to announce the start of the ministry. This event could be a cookout with games and entertainment provided for children. Hand out information at the event and make personal contacts with people to invite them to your ministry. Let people know that daycare will be provided during married couples events.
-
5
Poll your group at your first meeting to see which topics are of interest. Possible topics of study include managing finances, parenting issues, sex and intimacy, communication and possible marriage threats.
-
6
Plan and conduct studies around the topics that are generated.
-
7
Invite guest speakers to your group occasionally. These can be well-known people who have studied, written about or conducted therapy associated with marriage. These guests also can be local people who have been married for many years or even people who have been divorced and have learned valuable lessons from their experiences.
