How to Build a Giant Transformers Costume
Transformers are robots that change into other things. Costume companies and party shops sell Transformers costumes, but they are expensive when you are on a budget. You and your children can create your own Transformers costume with items you have around the house. All you need is a little time and some creativity to make your giant Transformers costume the hit of Halloween.
Things You'll Need
- Large box
- Duct tape
- Utility knife
- Bowl
- Pencil
- Medium box
- Stapler
- Paper towel rolls
- Rectangular boxes
- Helmet box
- Glue
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Gloves
- Boots
- Glow tape
Instructions

Torso

Turn in the flaps on a large cardboard box and tape them down with duct tape.

Close up the other end of the box, with the small flaps together first and then the large flaps closed. Tape the large flaps in place along the seam.

Cut a hole in the top of the box with a utility knife for the head to fit through. Use a large bowl to draw a circle on the top of the box if needed.
Hips, Arms and Legs

Turn in the flaps on a medium box and tape them down with duct tape.

Attach the medium box to the bottom of the large box with a stapler. The medium box should fit into the bottom of the larger box to cover the hips.

Fold in the flaps on both ends of two rectangular boxes. These boxes should be large enough for your arms and legs to fit through. These will be the robot's arms and legs. Tape down the flaps inside the boxes with duct tape.

Connect paper towel rolls flat to the top of the large box with glue. These are your weapons.
Helmet

Find a box that is large enough for the head that still allows breathing room.

Fold in the flaps on the box for the helmet and tape them down with duct tape.

Cut out sockets for the eyes and mouth with a utility knife.

Cut out shapes to attach to the helmet that are similar to those of your favorite Transformers character.

Attach the shapes to the helmet with glue.

Paint the sections of the Transformers costume with acrylic paint and a paintbrush.

Complete the look with large gloves and tall boots. These items also will help hold the arms and legs in place.

Add glow-in-the-dark tape on the costume for stripes.

Tips & Warnings
If you want your Transformers costume to change, paint the reverse side of the arms and legs with weapons. The arm and leg sections of your costume then can be turned around when you want to change the look.
