How to Clean Stains on Rectangular Granite Landscaping Stones
Granite stone occurs naturally in the ground. Many objects contain granite, such as countertops, blocks for building exteriors and rectangular landscaping stones, among many others. While granite endures more that other materials, it can absorb stains, such as motor oil or red clay, if you do not seal it. Things You'll Need
- Bucket
- Liquid industrial soap
- Long-handled scrub brush
- Pressure washer
- Hydrochloric acid (optional)
- Rubber gloves (optional)
- Face mask (optional)
- Garden hose (optional)

Fill a large bucket with 1 gallon of water and add 3 to 4 tbsp. of an industrial strength liquid soap.

Pour the mixture evenly over the surface of the granite landscaping stones until they are completely wet.

Scrub the surface of the granite stones with a long-handled scrub brush, concentrating on the stained areas the most. Continue scrubbing until you remove the stains.

Rinse the entire soap residue off the granite stones using a pressure washer. Set the nozzle on the pressure washer to a wide spray pattern and hold it 6 to 12 inches away from the granite stones.

Tips & Warnings
To prevent future staining, consider applying a sealant to the granite landscape stones to prevent stains from forming in the future.
If the stain is from rust, or is just hard to remove, place hydrochloric acid in a bucket and add enough water to dilute it to 10 percent. Put on rubber gloves and a face mask and scrub the stains until they are removed. Rinse thoroughly afterward with a garden hose.
