How to Put a Toilet Tank Together
Do-it-yourself home improvement projects are a great way to save money and learn new skills. Replacing a leaky or cracked toilet tank is no reason to call a plumber. Despite its intimidating appearance, a toilet tank has very basic installation requirements and you can use tools that you may already have in your toolbox. When setting the heavy porcelain tank in place, take care not to bang it against the wall or the bowl. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lift the tank and set it in place on the back part of the bowl. You may need a partner to help you lift the tank.
-
2
Look through the open part of the tank and slide the tank slightly to line up three bolt holes.
-
-
3
Place a rubber washer on each of three brass bolts. Insert the bolts into the three holes to connect the tank and bowl.
-
4
Add a washer and nut to the end of each of the bolts. They will be easy to access if you lie on the floor where you can see under the toilet tank. Use a screwdriver to hold the head of the bolt as you tighten the nuts with a ratchet wrench until they are secured.
-
5
Use a level to verify that the tank is level. Adjust as needed by loosening or tightening bolts.
-
6
Connect the tube from the water shutoff valve to the bottom of the tank. Tighten the plastic or metal nut that connects the tube to the ballcock.
-
7
Place the lid on the tank and turn on the water supply.
