Homemade GPS Handlebar Mounts thumbnail
A bar-mounted GPS provides mapping and navigation.

Many small, hand-held GPS units make for handy navigation devices in backcountry travel. For bicyclists in the backcountry, figuring out how to mount them to the bars presents an almost Rubik's Cube-level problem. There are solid methods to use that get the units mounted to the handlebars, leaving your hands free for the bike control and steering. Make a handlebar mount for your GPS unit.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the GPS unit over and check it for a lanyard screw. Unscrew the lanyard screw to leave the screw hole open. Measure the screw and get a ball-swivel with the same diameter threaded bolt as the screw.

    • 2

Screw the ball-swivel into the back of the GPS unit.

    • 3

Wrap the handlebar clamp around the bars, toward the center and tighten them down with the clamp screws.

    • 4

Screw the ball-swivel mounting screw onto the bar clamps at the available screw holes on the clamp.

    • 5

Pivot the GPS unit via the ball-swivel for optimal viewing.
