How to Make Carbon Fiber Sheets

Carbon fiber sheets are a combination of plastic and carbon resins that automobile mechanics and aerospace professionals use. Although carbon fiber sheets can be expensive to purchase, you can create your own fairly easily with some specialized equipment.

Things You'll Need

• Breathing mask
• Hollow mold
• Gloves
• Can of Fiberglass resin
• Goggles
• Two sheets of fiber
• Autoclave device
• Paintbrush
• Can of clear epoxy

Instructions

1. Spritz the Fiberglass resin on the outside of the mold. Allow it to soak through so the interior is wet as well.

2. Push the fiber cloth sheets into the inner section of the hollow mold. Be certain each section of the mold is enclosed by sheets of fiber.

3. Mist the interior of the mold using the Fiberglass resin. Super-saturate the cloths you placed inside the mold. Keep the mold away from your nose or mouth during this process.

4. Close the mold. Put it inside an autoclave device for 25 minutes. Remove the mold from the device. Let it stand for four hours.

5. Open up the mold. Take out the carbon fiber. Use the paintbrush to spread the clear epoxy across the carbon fiber, covering it completely.
