Make a Cat Harness Holster

Cat harness holsters provide a safe way for owners to walk their cats. They are different from traditional harnesses because they are made from a single piece of material instead of multiple straps. Harness holsters reduce pulling stress and are less likely to dig into your cat's neck and shoulders. Cats who live indoors can benefit from a cat harness holster, as it allows owners to exercise their cat. Making your own cat harness holster is not only cost-effective but allows you to customize the harness to your cat's individual measurements, ensuring it's secure and comfortable.

Instructions

  1. Create the Pattern

    • 1

Measure your cat. Wrap the tape around the largest part of the cat's ribcage, and from the bottom of its chest around to the top of its shoulders. Measure the length of the cat from the top of its shoulders to its stomach. Record these measurements.

    • 2

Draw a rectangular pattern using the recorded measurements. Add 1/2 an inch to each side for the seam. Cut out the pattern.

    • 3

Drape the pattern over the cat. Mark where the leg holes need to be cut. Remove the pattern and cut the holes, leaving a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

    Make the Harness Holster

    • 4

Cut the fabric from the paper pattern. Use a durable and breathable fabric such as cotton or Gore-Tex. Drape the fabric over the cat to make sure it fits. Make any adjustments needed.

    • 5

Turn the edges of the fabric over 1/2 inch. Sew along the edges to create the seams. Repeat with the leg holes.

    • 6

Attach the ring to the top half of the harness using strong thread. Cut a 1-inch wide strip of fabric the same length as the harness holster. Sew the strip of fabric down the middle of the harness, threading it through the ring to anchor it in place. This ring is where the leash will be clipped.

    • 7

Cut the Velcro into four strips. The looped Velcro strips should be 1/2 inch shorter than the hooked strips. Sew the looped Velcro at horizontal intervals along one length of the harness holster. Bring the two long sides of fabric together and line up the hooked Velcro strips with the looped Velcro. Sew the end 1/2 inch of the hooked strips onto the edge of the fabric. The length of the strips should hang over the edge so they can be attached to the looped Velcro. Poppers or buttons can be added if extra security is needed.
