How to Calculate a Polyface Mesh Area
Polyface mesh is a type of computer programming design tool that can be "formed" into various shapes, sizes, pictures and graphics. Understanding how to use polyface mesh on your computer can be a little challenging, but finding the area of the polyface mesh doesn't have to be as long as you know certain measurements of the shape you have created. Although each program is different, typically if you click "Edit" and then "Select All," you'll be able to open the General Menu, which includes the geometry of the shape.
Instructions
-
Rectangle
-
1
Write down the length and width of your shape. Use the following equation:
Area of a rectangle = length x width
-
2
Plug in the numbers from your computer to your equation. For this example, suppose that the rectangle is 5 cm long and 9 cm wide. This yields the following equation:
Area = 5 cm x 9 cm
-
-
3
Multiply your length and width together to find the area of your polyface mesh rectangle:
5 cm x 9 cm = 45 cm
Square
-
4
Write down the length of one side your polyface mesh square -- remember that all sides of the square will be the same length.
Area of a square = length x length, or side ^2
-
5
Plug in the numbers from your computer to your equation. For this example, suppose that the sides of the square are 18 cm. This would yield the following equation:
18 cm x 18 cm, or 18 cm^2
-
6
Multiply the length of the side with itself -- or square the side -- to find the area of the polyface mesh square:
Area = 18 cm x 18 cm, or 18cm^2 = 324 cm
Circle
-
7
Write down the radius of your polyface mesh circle. If you're given the diameter only, simply divide the diameter by 2 since the radius is half the length of the diameter.
Area of a circle = pi x radius^2, or 3.14 x r^2
-
8
Plug in the numbers from your computer into your equation. For this example, suppose that the circle's radius is 12 cm.
Area = 3.14 x 12 cm^2
-
9
Square the radius, then multiply it by pi (3.14) to find the area of the polyface mesh circle.
Area = 3.14 x 144 cm^2 = 452.16 cm ^2
