Comcast is one of the United States’ leading Internet providers. Since the Nintendo Wii has built-in wireless capability, it is easily compatible with a Comcast Internet connection with the addition of a simple wireless router. The entire configuration process takes a few short minutes and is very reliable once connected.

Another option is to buy the Wii LAN accessory, which connects directly to the Comcast modem.

Connect your Comcast cable modem to the wireless router with an ethernet cord. Most routers come with an ethernet cord. It looks like a larger telephone plug.

Configure your home wireless network using the router manufacturer’s enclosed instructions. While each router is different, all will require you to name your network and decide between a secured network that requires a password or an open network that does not. The Wii will use either.

Turn on your Wii.

Select “Wii” at the bottom left of the main menu.

Select “Wii Settings.”

Select “Internet” on the second “Wii Settings” menu. The blue arrow on the first menu will take you there.

Select “Connection Settings."

Select either of the three options to set up a new connection.

Select “Wireless connection.”

Select “Search for an access point.”

Choose your home Wi-Fi network from the list of access points.

Click “OK” to run the connection test. Once this test is successful, you will be connected.

Tips

Although Nintendo strongly suggests using a Wi-Fi connection, those wishing to use a wired connection can purchase the Wii LAN Adapter. The adapter comes with detailed connection instructions but is simple to use -- simply connect the ethernet cord from your Comcast modem to the Wii adapter, then the adapter to a Wii USB port.
