1. Open a Facebook account for your brand name. If you are a rock band, use the band's name, if you are a multinational corporation, use your company's name. You want your name to stand out in every picture and on every status update. Start entering URLs leading to information about your brand on the "Links" page of your Facebook account. Send frequent email updates to all of the friends and fans of your brand's Facebook page.

2. Interact with your business' Facebook friends and fans constantly, and always in a friendly, positive manner. Your Facebook account is a garden and needs constant monitoring and care. Aggrieved fans or customers will complain on their Facebook accounts in the hopes of convincing others to not support your brand.

3. Hold regular contests and giveaways on Facebook. You want people to want to come to your business' Facebook page for more than just news updates.

4. Respond to inbox messages and wall comments on your business' Facebook page as soon as possible. This will not only satisfy the senders of messages and comments but will encourage others to comment on your wall, as well.

5. Develop corporate ties by linking your business' Facebook account to other major social networking sites, such as LinkedIn.
