Instructions

  1. Side Ponytail

    • 1

Draw a circle with a pencil on a piece of art paper to create the girl's head and add in neck lines by drawing two vertical lines down from the bottom of her face.

    • 2

Draw a half-oval horizontally directly on top of the girl's head to create the top section of hair.

    • 3

Draw a long curved line starting mid-head on the right side and continue it down until you reach the desired length of hair. Leaving a pointed tip at the end, follow the line back up to the starting point to create the outline of a side ponytail. The top line should resemble a relaxed backwards "S" shape, and the bottom line should be curved more in a "C" shape. If you want to draw a side ponytail on the left side of the head rather than the right, simply mirror this method by drawing your lines in the opposite direction.

    • 4

Draw a thin line for a hair elastic or a decorative bow where the top of the ponytail meets the top section of hair. You can add bangs by drawing straight lines or sketching angled strokes of hair across the center of the forehead, spanning from one side of the face to the other. Finish the design by adding in eyes, ears and other basic facial features.

    Pigtails

    • 5

Draw a circle with a pencil on a piece of art paper to create the girl's head and add in neck lines by drawing two vertical lines down from the bottom of her face.

    • 6

Draw a half-oval horizontally directly on top of the girl's head to create the top section of hair.

    • 7

Draw one curved line starting mid-head on the right side and continue it down until you reach the desired length of hair. Leaving a pointed tip at the end, follow the line back up to the starting point to create the outline of a single pigtail. The top line should resemble a relaxed backwards "S" shape, and the bottom line should be curved more into a "C" shape. Repeat this method on the other side of the head to create a second pigtail but draw your lines in the opposite direction.

    • 8

Draw a thin line for a hair elastic or a decorative bow where the top of each ponytail meets the top section of hair. You can add bangs by drawing a straight line or creating triangular strokes of hair across the center of the forehead, spanning from one side of the face to the other. Finish the design by adding in eyes, ears and other basic facial features.

Hair Worn Down With a Headband

    • 9

Draw a circle with a pencil on a piece of art paper to create the girl's head and add in neck lines by drawing two vertical lines down from the bottom of her face.

    • 10

Draw a half-oval horizontally directly on top of the girl's head to create the top section of hair.

    • 11

Draw a line over the entire top section of hair, leaving a space in between the two lines and continuing the lines down on each side until you reach the desired length of hair. Draw a straight line horizontally from each side in until you reach the neck on each side.

    • 12

Draw a thin line over the line separating the two top sections of hair and create a headband. You can add bangs by drawing a straight line or sketching angled strokes of hair across the center of the forehead, spanning from one side of the face to the other. Finish the design by adding in eyes, ears and other basic facial features. You can also choose to have the ears showing with the hair tucked behind them or opt to have the hair cover her ears.
