1
Measure the size of the rough opening where the windows will be installed. Run a tape measure along the width of the window in three different locations and record the smallest measurement. Repeat the process for the height, again recording the smallest measurement. Purchase a vinyl window that will closely fit within the dimensions of the recorded measurements.

2
Clean out the window opening with a brush and rag to remove any dirt and debris that may remain from the previous window. Inspect the entire area to make sure no debris remains before installing the new window.

3
Set the vinyl window in the opening and center it up. Run a level along the sides and sill to make sure it is square and plumb. Insert shims in the corner and along the side if necessary to level it out. Hammer them in carefully until the window is level.
-
4
Insert nails through the side of the window and into the jamb. Hammer in a nail every six inches, up the sides and into the top of the jamb. Add a few nails to the bottom to secure the window to the frame.
-
5
Run a bead of silicone sealant around the entire window, between the window and the jamb, to properly seal it. Inspect the window to make sure it is installed and sealed properly. Break off the excess shims from the window by hand or with a hammer.
-
6
Unlock the window and move it up and down to make sure it is functioning properly.
