Uploading music from a radio used to be a time-consuming chore, but the Internet has reduced this task to a few easy clicks.

Copying or recording popular music from radio playlists is a favorite pastime of many people. In the past, this has always required additional equipment, such as tapes or recording devices.

Now that most top radio stations nationwide have multimedia websites, listeners not only have the option of hearing the live radio broadcast online in real time, but they can now upload any song played by the station easier and quicker than ever before. Radio-station websites display their daily playlists and offer a variety of ways to obtain and share the music they play.

Open your Web browser. In the search bar, type the call letters of the radio station you wish to listen to followed by the city and state where the station is broadcast (i.e., "WBLS Albany, New York"). From the list of returned search results, click on the link that represents your radio station's website.

On the radio station's homepage, click on "Listen Live" (most radio-station websites will have this option and word it similarly). You will be directed to a page on the website that details and streams the radio station's playlist in real time.

The playlist will include information pertinent to the song being played, such as the name of the song and the artist singing the song. There are also options for uploading the song including purchasing it, uploading the song to your social media network, uploading to iTunes or emailing it. Choose the option that represents where you would like the music uploaded and follow the website's prompts to completion. You can do this for any song the radio station plays through the day.

Tips & Warnings

  • Uploading copyrighted music to the Internet without paying for it or without the consent of the music company that produced the material is illegal.
