Instructions

    • 1

Pull the bottom of one leg in the pair of leggings taut under the sewing machine's foot. To achieve this, slip the opening at the bottom of the legging over the machine's lip and under the machine's foot and then pull the cloth toward you, allowing the cloth to stretch. The farther you pull out the legging the more pronounced the ruffle will be.

    • 2

Line the piece of ribbon up along the edge of the legging you will sew, keeping the ribbon flat and straight along the bottom of the legging. Leave about 1/4 inch of ribbon free at the end for finishing.

    • 3

Sew the ribbon into place using a zigzag stitch. Sew all the way around the bottom of the legging. When the legging is released, a nice ruffle will develop.

    • 4

Cut the excess ribbon off, leaving 1/4 inch on the end.

    • 5

Tuck the ends of the ribbon underneath themselves and hand-sew the raw edge firmly in place. These two ends can overlap slightly.
