Slumber parties can be a great sucess with the right parental supervision.

Being a slumber party host is not a responsibility that one should take lightly. As a parent, it is important to remember that you are responsible for other children as well as your own. Hosting a slumber party takes a lot of energy and focus, so it is necessary to make sure that you can give your full attention to the party and will not be highly distracted by other personal tasks at home on that day.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan the slumber party on either the weekend or on a school holiday where there is no school the next day. Make sure to notify the children's parents a few weeks in advance if possible. Also let them know if dinner is included or if there will just be snacks and if the kids should bring their own bedding.

    • 2

Prepare the house for your guests the day before. Double-check that you have all the food and drinks needed for the party. Set aside some board games for children that will keep them entertained. Ask your child to help you choose some age-appropriate movies from either your home collection or the local video store.

    • 3

Cook dinner a few hours before the guests arrive. If you are ordering pizza, make sure that you get enough for everyone to have seconds. Always provide an alternative meal option for children who might be allergic to the main dish.

    • 4

Lay down the ground rules with your child before the party starts so he understands what his guests can and cannot do. Make sure to go over the rules again when the guests arrive and that they understand how important it is to respect your rules.

    • 5

Relax. Once dinner is done and the children are busy watching a movie or playing a board game, make sure to take a moment for yourself and do something that you enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set aside an extra room in your house just in case a child would like to get some sleep in a more peaceful environment. Try not to give children a huge amount of sugar before they go to sleep, otherwise they will have a hard time calming down.

  • Keep an eye on everyone during the slumber party by occasionally checking in every once in a while. Do not leave the house for long periods of time during the party, even if the children are older; make sure you are physically present at home. Ask the parents before the party if their children have any allergies to anything, such as food or pets.
