How to Eat Healthy in Your 30s
Learning healthy eating habits in your 30s is a practice that will stay with you for the rest of your life. People of all ages have to cut back on American staples -- refined grains, sugary drinks, potatoes and red meat -- so that is a good place for those in their 30s to begin. As you reach your third decade, your body starts to slow down and what goes in your mouth starts to stick to your middle. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Build strong bones. By the end of your 20s and beginning of your early-30s, you are nearing the end of your bone-building possibilities, so what you have is as good as it gets. Drink fortified milk -- at least two 8-ounce glasses a day -- and eat broccoli as a last-ditch effort to develop your skeleton.

2
Cut back on -- or, even better, eliminate -- fast-food. Develop a disdain for fat-oozing hamburgers with a side of fries. When you go out to eat, expand your culinary horizons and start trying Japanese sushi or Thai salads.

3
Graduate from beer to red wine. Look at beer as the drink of adolescents and something you indulged in when you were in college. Red wine -- in moderation -- has been proven to have health benefits.
-
4
Develop a taste for dark chocolate, and say that milk chocolate is "so for kids". The antioxidants found in dark chocolate will help lower your blood pressure, but too much sugar can lead to type two diabetics -- a potential problem for you in your late 30s -- so don't over indulge.
-
5
Cook your own food. When you eat out, you never know exactly how healthy it is. Buy fresh fruit, meat and vegetables and cook in large quantities, so it lasts for a few days.
-
6
Try healthy new recipes and begin to develop your own style of cooking. Eliminate deep-frying in your kitchen and grill your meat to reduce the fat content.

Start having dinner parties. Rather than going out for pizza and beer, invite your friends around for a healthy home-cooked meal. They, too, may be in their 30s and wanting to improve their eating habits. Don't bother with dessert unless it is a fresh fruit salad.
