      Lift the take-up lever on the Singer 221 sewing machine. Turn the balance wheel toward you. As you wheel moves toward you, the lever will move up. Raise the lever until it is at its highest point.

      Raise the bed extension as far as it will go.

      Lift the latch on the front of the bobbin case. Remove the bobbin case and bobbin from the Singer sewing machine.
