How to Change Cartridges in a Universal Adding Machine
Universal adding machines are compatible with several aftermarket ink cartridge replacements which, when properly installed, allow the machine to continue performing properly. They are a staple in many offices and home businesses, but if your machine is running low on ink, you'll need one of the replacement cartridges to keep going. The cartridges can be purchased online or at many office supply retailers.

1
Flip open the plastic flap covering the paper roll. Click the switch to turn the adding machine off, which moves the print wheel to the side. Once it has stopped, pull the paper roll from the machine.

2
Push the print cover to the rear of the machine to reveal with spent cartridge. Gently pinch both sides of the cartridge and gently but firmly lift the cartridge from the cavity in the machine. Dispose of the cartridge properly, preferably in the appropriate recycling receptacle.

Push the new cartridge down into the machine, in place of the old one. You should hear an audible click, which indicates the cartridge is in proper position. Flip the print cover back over top of the new cartridge and replace the paper roll. Flip the plastic cover over the roll and turn the adding machine back on; once the wheel slides into place, you're ready to resume using the adding machine.
