How to Make Dogs From Golf Balls

How to Make Dogs From Golf Balls thumbnail
It's easy to find a use for all your extra golf balls.

Hold a golf ball next to a poodle. The dimpled surface of a golf ball is somewhat similar to the texture of a poodles tightly curled fur. Seven golf balls are all that you need to make a basic dog body that you can decorate to make into any breed of dog. The best adhesive to use to keep the balls together is hot glue.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what type of dog you're going to make. The breed of dog will decide what kinds of supplies you'll need beyond golf balls. For a poodle, you'll need lots of white pompoms, but for a cocker spaniel, you'll need some tan paint and felt to make your figure match the actual animal.

Glue four of the golf balls together in a square configuration with the hot glue gun. Each of the golf balls will act as one of the dog's legs. Glue a fifth golf ball on top of the dog's "back legs," slightly toward the center of the four-ball configuration. Glue the sixth ball---the head---on top of the "front legs" so it touches the body ball. The dog's nose is angled downward and glued to the bottom front of the head.

Paint the golf balls if necessary to alter the color of the "fur." You won't need to do any painting if the dog is meant to be white, but you can add painted spots or paint the golf balls entirely for dogs that are a different color.

Create a face for your dog. Glue a pair of large google eyes onto the head and use a small black pompom for the nose. To make the mouth, you can either draw one on using a thick permanent marker or cut out a felt one.

    • 5

Decorate the dog so it matches your chosen breed. Cut out felt ears and glue them onto the sides of the head. For a poodle, glue a large white pompom on the top of its head and make a tail out of several smaller pompoms. Glue various lengths of string on as fur to make a dreadlocked komondor. Painted golf tees make excellent tails for dogs with short tails; otherwise, use a piece of string.

Add a ribbon collar. Cut a short length of ribbon to wrap around the body/neck joint. Glue the ends and twist the collar so the glued joint is hidden.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful when using the hot glue gun. Both the glue and the tip of the gun are extremely hot.
