How to Replace the Belt on a Singer Sewing Machine 2001 Touch Tronic

The Singer 2001 Touch Tronic is an upgraded version of the Athena that debuted in 1975. The 2001 Touch Tronic enjoyed the same instant success as the Athena. The Athena has electronic problems that in 1975 could not be resolved. Any serial number on an Athena with a letter in front means it is a refurbished product. The 2001 Touch Tronic became a replacement for the Athena simply because the electronic issues were resolved.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the 2001 Touch Tronic is unplugged from the wall outlet. Unplug the drive peddle from the sewing machine. You want the needle to move up and down only when you use the side drive wheel.

    • 2

Find the bolts holding the sewing machine together. Look in the back and you can see the motor; a few bolts hold the motor onto the sewing machine. Remove the bolts.

    • 3

Look for the motor belt as you remove the bolts holding the motor onto the sewing machine. Notice that there is a belt on the motor drive shaft. Slip this belt off the drive shaft.

    • 4

Take the motor belt off the side drive wheel where the wheel attaches to the motor. You may need to turn the wheel forward to work it off the wheel.

    • 5

Thread the new belt onto the side drive wheel by turning the wheel backward slowly. The wheel will catch the belt and gently pull it onto the side drive wheel. Make sure that the smooth part of the motor belt is on the outside. The part of the belt touching the side drive wheel has gripper teeth that grab onto the wheel as the motor runs.

    • 6

Slide the other end of the motor belt onto the drive shaft. The gripper teeth need to face the drive shaft. Reattach the motor to the 2001 Touch Tronic. Reconnect the drive peddle to the sewing machine and test.

Tips & Warnings
