How to Test Roadrunner Speed

Learn how to test the speed of Roadrunner.

Roadrunner is a high speed Internet service provided by the Time Warner media corporation. The actual speed of your specific Internet is dependent on the plan you have worked out with Roadrunner. In order to ensure you are getting the right speed for the plan you are paying for you can perform a simple speed test. Roadrunner Internet can be tested just like any other Internet provider with free online testers that provide a sample download and upload file to determine your speed.

Instructions

1. Quit any Internet-draining programs like downloading clients or streaming video sources. If you have devices connected to your Internet like a VOIP phone, you should disconnect that as well.

2. Click on the Start menu on your computer and choose "All Programs." Select your Internet browser from the programs list and click on it to launch it.

3. Visit a broadband speed test website by typing in the address in the URL bar in your browser. You can use any number of sites like Speedtest.net, Bandwidthplace.com or Testinternetspeed.org.

4. Click on the button that says "Begin Test" or "Start Test." This will initiate the speed test; don't perform any other Internet activities while the test is being conducted.

5. Read the results of the speed test for both the upload and download speeds. Compare these results to the Roadrunner specifications that you are supposed to be getting.

Tips & Warnings

• Try resetting your modem before performing the speed test to ensure proper communication between the device and Time Warner Cable.

• Contact Time Warner immediately if your Internet speed is not up to the correct speed because there may be a connection problem.
